Mixed Media Collage

In this tutorial workshop we looked at creating a series of mixed media artworks (using paint, pastels, rollers, brushes) based on colour and pattern. Prior to this lesson a series of mixed artworks based on an allocated colour. It was then photocopied to produce multiple pieces to use.

Collage:
In this workshop we brought in an image to then use for inspiration to collage. I brought in a picture of Ayers Rock. I drew a very faint outline on where the rock, sky and landscape was. I then started tearing and cutting coloured papers, looking for techniques that complimented each other. I glued onto A3 paper using a layering technique. This was good because it allowed me change the shape, I had put a few strips on and it was not looking the best. I could manipulate the pieces I tore to change the look. So mistakes were easily fixed up. This was my favourite tutorial and workshop as it was the first time I felt successful in art. I was able to put the picture together and it actually looked like Ayers Rock. I know art is interpreted by others differently and so it should be. Art and artists give people inspiration, it’s what you interpret. I believe there is no good or bad art; just that everyone has their own taste, likes and dislikes. Thinking about I could use this in class, I can’t help but think that all the workshops I have been part of all intertwine together. The colour wheel, techniques, printing, patterns. This is a big part of this process. This is definitely something I will endeavour to use in class.
